Nameshift is turning the tables: New commission structures, built for domain investors

Read all about our new commission structures below and discover how Nameshift is changing the way domain sellers keep more of what they earn.

What’s a gTLD?

A gTLD (generic Top-Level Domain) is a domain extension that is not tied to a specific country, such as .com, .net, or .org. For gTLD sales, Nameshift charges a simple, flat 6.5% commission rate.

gTLD Commission — 6.5% Flat Rate

A predictable model: You pay 6.5% and keep 93.5% of every sale.

For example:

A domain sells for $25,000.

  • Commission: $1,625
  • Your net earnings: $23,375
  • You retain: 93.5%

ccTLD Commission — Built for Volume Sellers

A ccTLD (country-code Top-Level Domain) is tied to a specific country or territory, such as .de, .nl, .fr, .co.uk, or .eu.

Nameshift uses a tiered commission structure based on sales volume:

Sales Volume | Commission | You Keep

  • 1–3 sales  10%  90%
  • 4–5 sales  8%   92%
  • 6–9 sales  7%   93%
  • 10+ sales  5.5%  94.5%

Why the 5.5% Rate Matters

The difference becomes significant as sales volume increases.

"At 5.5%, Nameshift charges 45% less commission than a 10% rate and 63% less than a 15% rate."

For investors selling multiple ccTLDs, those savings can add up quickly. Lower fees mean more of each sale stays in your business, giving you more capital to reinvest in your portfolio.

Additional ccTLD Example — How Volume Lowers Your Commission

Consider this scenario: you sell eight ccTLDs in a month at an average price of $2,500 each.

  • Total sales: $20,000
  • Applicable commission rate: 7%
  • Commission paid: $1,400
  • Your net earnings: $18,600
  • You retain: 93%

Now compare that with a marketplace charging 12%:

  • Total sales: $20,000
  • Commission rate: 12%
  • Commission paid: $2,400
  • Your net earnings: $17,600

Difference: $1,000 more retained from your sales

The more you sell, the lower your commission rate becomes.

Once you reach 10+ sales, your commission drops to 5.5%, allowing you to retain 94.5% of every sale.

Sell your ccTLD domains with tiered commissions that drop as low as 5.5%, with a reset at the end of each month.
