Our new terms and conditions take effect on December 1, 2026. They describe how a sale on Nameshift works, step by step from offer to payout, and add fixed notice periods and a complaints procedure. You can read the full text now.
What changes for buyers
A purchase on Nameshift now follows the same written steps every time. You always buy from Nameshift: the seller sets the price and can negotiate with you, and you pay Nameshift and get your invoice from us. An accepted offer and a Buy Now purchase are binding. The seller is paid once the domain is in your control and you have confirmed the transfer.
If you don't confirm or report a problem within 7 days, we treat the transfer as confirmed. If a transfer can't be completed, for example because the seller doesn't deliver in time, we cancel the sale and refund your payment in full. When you buy as a consumer, every purchase comes with the 14-day right of withdrawal.
What changes for sellers
The rates on our commission page are now part of the terms, with the rules around them written down: the lowest rate that applies is the one you pay, and reward points can lower your commission to 2%. We announce any change to the fees or the terms at least 15 days before it takes effect.
When a sale is agreed, Nameshift buys the domain from you and sells it to the buyer, so we draw up the invoice for our purchase in your name and you don't issue one yourself. After the buyer pays, you start the transfer within 5 business days, and we pay you on the schedule you choose: immediately, weekly, every second Monday, monthly or quarterly.
If we restrict a listing or an account, we tell you why, and before we close a seller account we give 30 days' notice, apart from a few urgent cases the terms list.
Auctions and rules for everyone
Auctions have their own part in the terms. Bids are binding, a bid in the last 5 minutes extends the auction by 3 minutes, and a seller sets either a reserve price or a minimum bid. Bids of 1,000 or more need a verified phone number, and there is no buyer premium.
For everyone, the terms add a way to report a listing you believe is illegal or infringes your rights, a complaints procedure where we aim to answer within 14 days, and a plain liability section. We also updated our privacy policy on 9 October.
Read the new terms and conditions before December 1, 2026. You don't need to do anything to keep using Nameshift; if you don't agree with the new terms, you can close your account free of charge before they take effect.
