Domain Transfers

Domain transfer information for sellers



Learn everything you need to know about domain transfers, including how the transfer process works, when your domain is successfully transferred, and when you'll receive payment for your sale.

When you sell a domain through Nameshift, the transfer process depends on the domain extension (TLD). While most transfers are handled automatically through our platform, some domain extensions require a direct transfer from the seller to the buyer.



Direct seller-to-buyer transfers


For a small number of (cc)TLDs, the domain must be transferred directly from your registrar account to the buyer's registrar account. In these cases, Nameshift cannot automatically verify that the transfer has been completed.
To protect both buyers and sellers, we wait for the buyer to confirm that they have successfully received the domain before releasing your payout.



When will i receive my payment?


Your payout will be processed as soon as one of the following happens:

  • The buyer confirms they have successfully received the domain.
  • The confirmation period expires. If the buyer does not respond, the transfer will be automatically confirmed after 7 days, provided no issues have been reported. Once the transfer has been confirmed, your seller payout will be processed according to our normal payment schedule.



Why is buyer confirmation required?


Buyer confirmation helps ensure that:

  • The domain has been successfully transferred.
  • The buyer has received full control of the domain.
  • Both parties are protected against incomplete or failed transfers.

This additional verification is only required for domain extensions where automated ownership verification is not possible.

My transfer is waiting for buyer confirmation


If you've received an email stating that your transfer is waiting for buyer confirmation, there's usually nothing you need to do. 
Your transfer has already been completed from your side. We are simply waiting for the buyer to confirm receipt of the domain. If they do not respond within the confirmation period (7 days), the transfer will be automatically confirmed and your payout will be released.
